Feminism VS Masculism

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Feminism. It’s a term which is quite commonly used in today’s world. If I make the tiniest of statements in favor of girls or women, I automatically become a feminist or people assume me to be a feminist which is true but not so much when taken in the wrong sense. Coming to boys or men, one thing that they are taunted for, is for calling themselves feminists because people have started assuming the wrong meaning of the word. While it’s real meaning is “equality of the sexes”, people today have started assuming that it means “preference of women over men”.

In my perspective, both should be treated with equal respect and honour, which is why I call myself a feminist. But before getting to that, let us talk about something concerning both feminism and masculism.

feminism vs masculinism #1

Several movies and even certain soap operas depicting real stories show the level of masculism in the country and the way people make fun of feminists and try to press them down. There are so many cases of wives being cheated on and tortured and girls being raped and women whose dreams are crushed due to the plain reason of marriage and the household work that comes along with it. The entire notion that the female has to leave all her ambitions and take care of the home, alone without any help from her so called “better half” after marriage is based on the concept of masculism. I have also noticed a few cases where the husband doesn’t mind helping the wife, but cannot due to various familial pressures. I would also like to add that there are also a couple of cases that involve oppression of men by women which is as wrong as the oppression of women.

Feminism is something that I don’t think I need to explain much to you because it is being used in almost every city in the world currently. The tiniest injustice to any female causes these feminists to rise from every corner of the world and fight, which is a good thing. But this good changes in nature when people start assuming that the world would be a better place if women were in control instead of men, but this is when the threshold or foundation on which the ideology of feminism stands on starts to crumble or would not hold true as it actually means “equality of the sexes”.

Also, this word “feminism” has become really over rated these days due to the distortion in it’s meaning and it’s misuse. So, in my opinion, people really need to understand the true definition of feminism before calling anyone or themselves a “feminist”.

But the point here is, is it good for any gender to rule over the other? Is it fair to favor one gender over the other? Neither women nor men should be ruling over the other. According to me, we should all live in an egalitarian society where we respect both genders equally and with the same rights. No one rules over the other. All decisions should be made together and not individually in a marriage or for a matter of fact, in any situation because according to me, both genders have their own pros and cons and we should learn to utilize and manipulate them well in order to create a harmonious environment with friendly, loving connections. Instead of fighting over which gender is better than the other, we should work towards equality and peace. In short, I support and believe in equality and not favoring one gender over the other.

Again, I would like to mention that feminism means “equality of the sexes” which is a stepping stone to an egalitarian society but due to it’s misuse in recent times, it sometimes strays away from it’s own basic ideology.
