How Disney shaped my life?
Updated: Jul 11, 2023
When I was a kid, I remember that the one thing I really looked forward to at the end of the day was my dad tucking me into bed, hearing about how my day went in quite some detail, and then reading me a bedtime story. One that I loved most was Sleeping Beauty. And then I remember my parents getting me a CD game based on that fairy tale and how ecstatic it made me feel.
Another memory from when I was probably around 11-12, was when I played Snow White in the play Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. I remember how magical I felt to be a princess, even if temporarily.
And then when I was sick and I would sleep really early and in turn wake up really early in the morning, I remember switching on the TV and watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and it being the only thing that would make me feel better.

I remember bonding with my elder cousin when we both fell in love with Tangled.
Then, came Beauty & the Beast starring Emma Watson(an icon in herself) in 2017, when I was a teenager trying to find myself(still am, but we all know the struggle is quite high at 16), and I fell in love with Disney magic again.
And who can stop smiling when they hear the songs Hakuna Matata from Lion King or empowered when they hear How Far I’ll go from Moana!
Now, I can keep on recalling many fond memories with fairy tales and Disney in them, the list is truly long, but let’s get to the point- I love magic. Yes, I’m 20 and I love magic.

The magic Disney taught us, as kids, to believe in- that is be kind, don’t be scared to take the chance, and most importantly to hope and to believe in hope that things will get better. And isn’t that the magic of life- hope?
Although I will not disagree that Disney might have its own cons that over time it has tried to slowly overcome, it does still have a long way to go. But that doesn’t take away the fact that it helped a lot of us as kids believe in love & hope.
Whether it was love for family, friends or “the one”- it has taught us how to be kind to others and ourselves. And with each new film, they are getting better & more refined at it- Tangled, Brave, Moana, Encanto & many more.

Some friends recently told me that I have an “aesthetic” to me, and I find that very interesting because A. I didn’t plan to & B. I was never someone who was comfortable with sharing her true self in front of others in fear of being judged. I’m still probably pretty conscious but this statement did make me realise that I have gotten better at expressing myself, quite like the Disney princesses I’ve been surrounded by growing up.
And that’s my random blog post on my journey with Disney. I found love for myself and the way I express myself from the Disney magic I was surrounded by all throughout my childhood. Were you a Disney fan like me? How has Disney helped you? Most importantly, do you believe in magic?
I would love to chat with you on Disney & more in the comments below!
