My Filmy Take
Updated: Jul 11, 2023
Films. I have always had a really special connection with films. It has always been something that has calmed me, fascinated me, and encapsulated me with its stories, action, music, etc. and being filmy is kind of in my blood. Basically, I LOVE films.
I haven’t been able to write in a long time due to various reasons. One would think that due to the pandemic, my creativity must be getting so much time to work out. That wasn’t the case with me though.
I realised within the first 2 months of this pandemic that going out, experiencing life is what helps me write and create. There were a few things that kept me sane during the pandemic. One of them was films.

As a child, whenever I couldn’t sleep or was upset over absolutely anything and my mom wasn’t around to help me calm down, my dad used this tactic of making me watch films.
When I was younger, they were my favourite Barbie movies, and later they progressed to watching his favourite films, Bollywood, Hollywood and beyond. Watching films together became our thing.

Coming back to what I was trying to say, films really helped me cope with the rollercoaster of emotions we all had to go through this pandemic. So, I thought I’d share some of those movies with you and why I love them-
1.Jab We Met= This is one of my favorite Hindi films from when I was a kid. What I love best about this film is how even though it has it’s own share of comedy in it, it’s very human. Imtiaz Ali’s characterizations in this film are plain beautiful for its time.
2.Blended= This is hands down that one film that never fails to make me laugh and forget about all my worries. Adam Sandler has always been known for his roles in comedy films but I feel like this one movie with Drew Barrymore just hit the right chord with me.
3.Thappad= Even though it was a pretty serious and new movie, I felt like it touched a very important topic in a very appropriate manner. Anubhav Sinha did a really good job to create the right impact for this issue.

Other than these movies, ZNMD, What are the Odds?, Dil Bechara, Psycho, Little Women, Parasite and many other films were in this list. I can’t list them all out here but I would like to end by quoting Pierre Paolo Pasolini- “The cinema is an explosion of my love for reality.”
What kept you sane this pandemic?
